What is the Consumer Code?

The Consumer Code came into effect on 1 st April 2010 and applies to all Homebuilders registered with the UK’s main new Home Warranty Bodies NHBC, Premier Guarantee, LABC Warranty and Checkmate. The code sets mandatory requirements that home builders must meet in their marketing and selling of new homes and their after-sales customer service. All homes reserved from the 1 st January 2024 will be covered by the Fifth Edition.

Why is the Consumer Code import to homebuyers?

The Code is there to ensure that homebuyers:

  • Are treated fairly by the Builder
  • To be given clear and reliable information on which to make informed decisions
  • To know what service levels to expect
  • To know how to access timely arrangements for resolving Disputes
